“The WHO defines health as more than just the absence of illness. Being healthy also involves mental and social well-being. We cannot separate the physical as a domain that can be cured independently of the rest that gives life meaning and makes us feel fulfilled. We are an ecosystem interacting with our surroundings. However, we have constructed our environment in a way that often does not support this interaction. In the hospital, we only focus on curing the sick physical body, while sensually, socially, and mentally, we are put on hold. At a symphony concert, we aim to be aesthetically and mentally fulfilled, preferably forgetting that we have a physical and social body. I want to work towards creating spaces that support the fact that we are always both sensing, thinking, and physically present – in interaction with others. This requires an interdisciplinary and cross-aesthetic approach, and that is why I am so pleased to have worked together with healthcare professionals, patients, and relatives, as well as our artist group in Studio Poesis, in places like delivery rooms, to create spaces that can meet and accommodate the whole person.”
